Academics at The Academy

The academic program at The Academy strives for integration of curriculum, an overlap of all developmental areas and allows ample time for children to play.  As children play, they master motor development, learn and use language, develop social skills, think creatively and grow in cognitive knowledge.  This (un)curriculum is all about supporting child-led play and trusting children as capable and engaged learners.  Our goal is growth and mastery in the following domains/subjects: Spiritual, socio-emotional, English language arts, Mathematics, science, history-social science, physical and fine arts.

The Academy offers the Abecka curriculum to our students. This curriculum was developed by Pensacola Christian Academy, one of America’s largest and most respected Christian day schools. The Abeka approach to Christian education keeps learning lively, interesting, and memorable. The materials reflect sensible theory that is firmly anchored to practical application. The purpose of this curriculum is to lead young children to Christ and train them in the Bible, Christian character, language and traditional subject matter. It will give our students a solid academic foundation while emphasizing Christian character and patriotism.

In addition to their curriculum, students engage in the following enrichment activities as part of their morning routine weekly:

CHAPEL

Chapel is a space designed for your child to learn more about the love of Jesus through singing, storytelling and puppets. Every week, our teachers bring a different bible lesson for the kids to learn and have fun with. They will be singing Chapel song all week long and enjoy talking about the fun bible stories they learned.

MUSIC

Our children participate in weekly interactive music class led by our own in-house music specialist. They explore music through singing, dance, instruments and sign language with an emphasis on rhythm and movement. The children have the opportunity to perform several times during the school year for Academy Sunday, our annual Christmas program and Mother’s Day Tea event.

LIBRARY

Excellent reading habits begin in the early years. Introducing children to literature in preschool supports kindergarten readiness, promotes early literacy and supports a love of language and reading. All Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes visit the library weekly. During that time, teachers read stories to them and students select books to check out and return the following week.

SPANISH

Our Spanish class is an introductory learning experience where students learn various words such as colors, family, community helpers, body parts, seasons and holidays. Our teacher reads stories and sings songs in Spanish. The benefits of early exposure to a foreign language enriches and enhances a child’s mental development. It also opens the door to another culture and helps a child understand and appreciate people from other countries.
